Routinely operating in the most extreme and challenging environmental conditions, it’s imperative that any ocean-going vessel can operate in all weather conditions with equipment that crews can depend on.
Our considerable expertise spans across maritime fleets, naval vessels, commercial marine transport and vessels for a variety of offshore industries such as oil and gas, fishing, workboats, rescue boats and oceanographic research vessels. We also have extensive experience working with manufacturers of subsea ROVs involved in cable laying, drilling, mining and trenching.
Working in partnership with a global network of EOM designers, Thermex design and build heat transfer solutions for air, oil and water typically used for lubrication systems, engine jacket water, and turbo intercoolers, as well as hydraulic oil coolers for applications using on-board fluid power such as steering systems, gearboxes, stabilisation systems, windlasses, winches, critical valve systems and Launch & Recovery Systems (LARS).
Utilising a strategic approach to material selection in the construction of all our heat exchangers and oil coolers, we use gunmetal, aluminium, cupronickel, stainless steel and titanium to combat the various inherent risks of employing highly corrosive salt water as a cooling agent, such as:
Salt water can corrode some metals up to five times faster than fresh water
Humid ocean air can cause metal to corrode up to ten times faster than air with normal humidity
Depletion of ferrous metals due to excretions deposited by waterborne bacteria in sea water
Metal erosion caused by ion migration due to electrochemical corrosion
